West Michigan Bank & Trust was established on May 2, 1983, originally under the name Benzie National Bank. The institution underwent several name changes throughout its history, transitioning to West Michigan National Bank on September 9, 1988, and further changing its name to West Michigan National Bank & Trust on April 9, 2004. On June 2, 2008, the bank adopted the name West Michigan Bank & Trust and changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Reserve, becoming a State Chartered Bank and a member of the Federal Reserve System. West Michigan Bank & Trust operated until August 13, 2016, when it merged with West Shore Bank, based in Ludington, Michigan.
