Over the years, the institution underwent several changes, including a reorganization into a mutual savings bank and later becoming a federal savings bank. On April 11, 1995, it changed its name to Wells Federal Bank, Fsb, and updated its organization type to a stock savings and loan. The bank's main office relocated to 53 First Street SW, Wells, Minnesota, on April 16, 1991. In 2012, Wells Federal Bank underwent significant transformations, changing its name to simply Wells Federal Bank and transitioning to a state-chartered commercial bank under the supervision of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. On July 17, 2015, the institution expanded by acquiring St James Federal Savings and Loan Association in Saint James, Minnesota. Ultimately, on August 19, 2017, Wells Federal Bank merged with Citizens Community Federal National Association, based in Altoona, Wisconsin, marking the end of its independent operations.
