History Of Washington Savings Bank

Washington Savings Bank was established in 1903 under the name Kazimierz Wielki Savings and Loan Association. In 1984, it changed its name to Washington Savings Association following the acquisition of Heritage Savings and Loan Association, also located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The institution underwent further rebranding in 2009, adopting the name Washington Savings Bank, and shifted its chartering agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision. Regulatory changes in 2011 transitioned its oversight from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), reflecting an evolution in its regulatory framework. By the end of 2012, Washington Savings Bank changed its classification to an FDIC Supervised State Savings Bank. In 2005, the main office relocated to 2900 Comly Road in Philadelphia. Ultimately, on May 1, 2020, Washington Savings Bank merged with William Penn Bank, based in Levittown, Pennsylvania, concluding its independent operations.
