Vermilion Valley Bank was established on July 25, 1913, originally operating under the name State Bank of Piper City. The institution underwent a significant name change on March 28, 1991, adopting its current name, Vermilion Valley Bank, as part of a period of growth and expansion. On the same day, it acquired The First National Bank of Cullom located in Cullom, Illinois. The bank continued to expand its operations by acquiring Kempton State Bank in Kempton, Illinois, on February 7, 1992, followed by the acquisition of Roberts State Bank in Roberts, Illinois, on October 7, 2002. In a notable change in its operational structure, Vermilion Valley Bank withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System on September 15, 1970.
