Unity Bank North was originally established as Red Lake County State Bank on January 1, 1929. The institution operated under this name until December 31, 1984, when it moved its main office to Main Street in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. On March 11, 1996, the bank relocated its main office to 210 Main Street in Red Lake Falls. Following this, the bank underwent a name change to Unity Bank North on June 1, 2005.
