United Bank and Trust Company is a financial institution that was originally established as Hansell Savings Bank on January 1, 1915. The bank underwent a name change to Sheffield Savings Bank on February 16, 1935, the same day it relocated its main office to 202 Gilman Street in Sheffield, Iowa. Over the years, the bank expanded its operations, obtaining full trust powers on December 13, 1988. Significant acquisitions include Farmers State Bank of Dows on November 1, 1993, and Alden State Bank in Alden, Iowa, on December 18, 1995. Following these acquisitions, the institution rebranded itself as United Bank and Trust Company on November 1, 1993.
