History Of The Peoples Bank
The Peoples Bank is a financial institution established on May 20, 1887. Originally named The Peoples Bank, it has undergone several significant changes and acquisitions throughout its history. In 1912, the bank obtained full trust powers, enhancing its financial services. The bank withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System and changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) on July 10, 1997. It later rejoined the Federal Reserve System as a member on February 11, 2014, the same day it changed its bank class to a state-chartered bank and switched its primary federal regulatory agency back to the Federal Reserve. The Peoples Bank has expanded its operations through strategic acquisitions, including The Sharon Valley State Bank in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, in 1991, The Farmers State Bank in Hardtner, Kansas, in 2002, The Smith County State Bank and Trust Company in Smith Center, Kansas, in 2008, and The Farmers Bank of Osborne in Osborne, Kansas, in 2020.
