The Northampton Co-operative Bank was established in 1889 and initially operated without Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insurance. Throughout its history, the bank underwent significant regulatory changes, including becoming a member of the Federal Reserve System on January 13, 2006, and changing its bank classification to a state-chartered bank. On April 1, 2015, The Northampton Co-operative Bank merged with and became part of the Greenfield Co-operative Bank, which is located in Greenfield, Massachusetts. This merger marked the end of The Northampton Co-operative Bank's independent operations.
