The National Bank of Georgia was established on May 8, 2000. Initially, it operated under its original name until December 31, 2016, when it merged with the State Bank and Trust Company located in Macon, Georgia, and subsequently changed its institution name to State Bank and Trust Company. On January 1, 2019, it merged again, this time becoming part of Cadence Bank, N.A., based in Atlanta, Georgia. Following this transition, the institution was rebranded as Cadence Bank. The entity continued to operate under this name until October 29, 2021, when it merged with BancorpSouth Bank, which is headquartered in Tupelo, Mississippi.
