The Merchants National Bank of Sacramento was established on January 1, 1921, as a national bank serving the Sacramento area. Over the years, the bank underwent several changes in ownership and name. On January 31, 2019, it merged with Redding Bank of Commerce, which marked a significant transition for the institution. Following this merger, the bank changed its name to Merchants Bank of Commerce on May 20, 2019. In a further consolidation, Merchants Bank of Commerce became part of Columbia State Bank on October 1, 2021. The evolution of the bank continued with its merger into Umpqua Bank on March 1, 2023, effectively concluding its long history as an independent financial institution in California.
