The First State Bank was established on September 1, 1905, under its original name. In 1970, the bank's main office was relocated to 660 Central Avenue in Barboursville, West Virginia, where it continued to operate for several decades. In 1989, the institution underwent changes regarding its trust powers, transitioning to limited trust powers on two occasions: on February 14 and again on August 7 of that year. However, the bank faced financial difficulties and ultimately failed on April 3, 2020. Following its failure, The First State Bank was merged with government financial assistance.
