The First State Bank was established on August 12, 1902. Throughout its history, the bank underwent several significant changes. On February 19, 1982, it moved its main office to 612 Willard Avenue in Canute, Oklahoma. Later, on October 1, 2011, the main office was relocated again to 3030 Northwest Expressway Suite 1 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The institution continued to operate under the name The First State Bank until it merged with First National Bank and Trust Company on July 18, 2021, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Following the merger, the bank changed its name to Sovereign Bank on May 23, 2023.
