The First State Bank was established on April 21, 1902, originally under the name The First State Bank. Over its history, the bank has undergone several key changes and acquisitions. In 1979, it withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System. The bank's main office relocated to 105 West Main, Norton, Kansas, on October 1, 1986. In the early 2000s, the bank expanded its operations by acquiring Consolidated State Bank in Hill City, Kansas, on January 1, 2000; The First National Bank of Hoxie in Hoxie, Kansas, on April 1, 2006; and The First National Bank of Holdrege in Holdrege, Nebraska, on January 1, 2015.
