HISTORY OF THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF MATTOON

The First National Bank of Mattoon was established on September 1, 1904, under the original name of The First National Bank of Mulberry Grove, Illinois. Over the years, the bank underwent several significant changes, including a relocation of its main office first to Maple Street in Mulberry Grove in 1990, and then to a new address at 102 Maple Street in Mulberry Grove in 1992. In 1998, it changed its name to The First National Bank, and in 2000, the bank expanded its trust powers to full. The main office was moved again on September 27, 2008, to 511 Lake Land Boulevard in Mattoon, Illinois. Ultimately, on August 20, 2021, The First National Bank of Mattoon merged with and became part of Washington Savings Bank, located in Effingham, Illinois.
