HISTORY OF THE CITIZENS STATE BANK OF TAYLOR COUNTY

The Citizens State Bank of Taylor County was established on September 8, 1922, originally named The Citizens State Bank. Over the years, it underwent several name changes and structural transformations. On January 17, 1936, it changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System, becoming a state-chartered bank. In 1999, the bank adopted the name South Georgia Community Bank on February 5, followed by a change to Citizens State Bank on August 31. Later that year, on September 30, it was renamed The Citizens State Bank of Taylor County. The bank expanded through acquisitions, notably acquiring Commercial State Bank in Donalsonville, Georgia, and the Bank of Terrell in Dawson, Georgia, both on January 1, 1999. On April 20, 1972, the main office was relocated to Winston and Montague Streets in Reynolds, Georgia. Ultimately, on October 21, 2019, The Citizens State Bank of Taylor County merged with and became part of Georgia Community Bank in Dawson, Georgia.
