The Citizens Bank is a financial institution with a history dating back to its establishment in 1905 as The Citizens Bank of Aztec, New Mexico. Initially, the bank was not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In 1934, it became FDIC insured and changed its status to a state-chartered bank while being a member of the Federal Reserve System. The institution underwent several name changes, including a rebranding to First Interstate Bank of Farmington, New Mexico, in 1985. On January 9, 1991, it adopted the name The Citizens Bank. The bank relocated its main office to 500 West Broadway in Farmington, New Mexico, on October 25, 1951, the same day it changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the FDIC and withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System.
