The Citizens Bank was established on November 5, 1941, under the original name of The Citizens Bank. In 1973, the bank changed its name to The Citizens Bank and simultaneously acquired the Bank of Ray City, located in Ray City, Georgia, on June 13 of that year. Later, on October 5, 2005, The Citizens Bank expanded its operations by acquiring Adel Banking Company in Adel, Georgia. However, the bank faced challenges over the years and ultimately closed voluntarily and liquidated its assets on April 1, 2020.
