The Bank of New York Mellon Trust Company, National Association, is a financial institution that has undergone several changes and acquisitions since its establishment on July 1, 1981, originally named Security Trust Company. The company initially operated with limited trust powers and subsequently changed its name to Bradford Trust Company of California in December 1984. Over the years, it has further altered its identity, becoming Fidata Trust Company California in April 1985, Wall Street Trust Company California in February 1986, and The Bank of New York Trust Company of California in April 1988. A significant milestone occurred in December 1989 when the institution acquired Irving Trust Company California and changed its trust powers to limited. In 1995, it was renamed Bny Western Trust Company. The year 2004 marked a pivotal moment as the institution changed its name to The Bank of New York Trust Company, National Association, following acquisitions that included The Bank of New York Trust Company, National Association in Miami, Florida, and Bny Missouri Interim Trust Company in St. Louis, Missouri.
