The Bank of Greene County, originally established as Greene County Savings Bank on May 18, 1974, underwent a series of significant changes throughout its history. On December 30, 1998, the institution changed its name to The Bank of Greene County and transitioned to a stock savings bank. Nearly eight years later, on November 1, 2006, the bank changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), updated its bank classification to a Federal Savings Bank, and designated OTS as its chartering agency.
