History Of Sunshine Bank

Sunshine Bank was established on November 26, 1954, under the name Sunshine State Federal Savings and Loan Association. Over the decades, the institution underwent several name changes and structural transformations. In July 2014, the bank was renamed Sunshine State Bank, and shortly thereafter, on the same day, it changed its organizational type to a Stock Savings Bank. By December 3, 2014, the name was changed again to Sunshine Bank. On June 30, 2015, Sunshine Bank acquired Community Southern Bank, further expanding its operations in Lakeland, Florida. The acquisition of Florida Bank of Commerce in Orlando on October 31, 2016, was another significant development in its growth. On January 1, 2018, Sunshine Bank merged with CenterState Bank, National Association, based in Winter Haven, Florida. Following this merger, the institution was rebranded as South State Bank, National Association, first in June 2020 and then officially on November 5, 2021. Throughout its history, Sunshine Bank adapted to changing financial landscapes and regulatory environments, including a shift in its primary federal regulatory agency to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in July 2011, and a move of its main office to Plant City, Florida, in March 2005.
