History Of Sturgis Bank & Trust Company
Sturgis Bank & Trust Company, established on January 1, 1905, originally operated as Sturgis Savings and Loan Association. Over the years, the institution underwent several name changes and organizational shifts. It became Sturgis Federal Savings Bank in January 1987, at which point it changed its trust powers to none, and transitioned to a Mutual Savings Bank in November 1986 under the Office of Thrift Supervision. In 1996, it regained full trust powers and by March 1, 1999, it adopted the name Sturgis Bank & Trust Company and changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The bank's classification changed again on August 20, 2020, when it became a state-chartered commercial bank. Further changes included the relocation of its main office multiple times, with the most recent move occurring on August 29, 2021, to 113 East Chicago Road, Sturgis, Michigan 49091.
