Stifel Trust Company, National Association, is a trust company with a history that dates back to its establishment on February 16, 1993, as Legg Mason Trust Company. Initially, the institution was not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Over the years, it underwent several name and structural changes: on September 21, 1999, it became Legg Mason Trust, FSB, and transitioned to a mutual savings bank. The organization changed its chartering agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) on the same date. On November 15, 2005, it reclassified itself as a national bank and changed its name to Legg Mason Trust Company, National Association, while also becoming a member of the Federal Reserve System. The name was subsequently changed to Legg Mason Investment Counsel & Trust Company, National Association, on April 1, 2006. After operating under various names, the institution was rebranded as 1919 Investment Counsel & Trust Company, National Association, on October 8, 2014.
