The State Bank of Whittington was established on August 5, 1919, as an independent financial institution in Whittington, Illinois. Initially, the bank was not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). On March 16, 1967, the bank became FDIC insured and changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the FDIC. The bank's main office was relocated on December 30, 1989, to Main Street in Whittington, Illinois.
