The State Bank of Cerro Gordo was established on May 24, 1894, originally operating under the name The American Bank. Over the years, the institution underwent several significant changes, including a transition to full trust powers on July 1, 1973, and a withdrawal from membership in the Federal Reserve System on February 22, 1974. On October 17, 2002, the bank acquired the Cerro Gordo Building and Loan and subsequently changed its name to the State Bank of Cerro Gordo. In 2009, the bank's main office relocated to 101 South Madison Street, Cerro Gordo, Illinois. The bank's operations came to an end when it merged with the State Bank of Bement in Bement, Illinois, on April 1, 2022.
