History Of Star Bank
Star Bank, originally established as The First National Bank of Bertha on August 15, 1904, has undergone several name and regulatory changes throughout its history. In 1982, it acquired The First National Bank of Verndale, and in 1983, it changed its name to The First National Bank of Bertha-Verndale. The institution transitioned to a national charter and was renamed Star Bank, National Association on March 1, 2000, when it also acquired West Central Bank in Barrett, Minnesota. Subsequently, in the same year, the main office moved to 201 Second Avenue West in Bertha, Minnesota. After a series of regulatory changes, including a shift of its primary federal regulatory agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision in 2004, the bank became classified as a Federal Savings Bank and withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System. On July 1, 2013, Star Bank transitioned to a state charter and changed its primary regulator to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
