History Of Southern Bank
Southern Bank, originally established as Southern Missouri Savings and Loan Association in 1887, has undergone several name changes and organizational transformations throughout its history. The institution transitioned to Southern Missouri Savings Bank in 1991, and later became Southern Missouri Savings Bank, FSB in 1995, converting to a stock savings bank. In 1998, it adopted the name Southern Missouri Bank & Trust Co. and switched its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The bank continued to evolve, becoming a commercial bank and member of the Federal Reserve System in 2009, at which point it changed its name to Southern Bank. Since then, Southern Bank has pursued a strategy of growth through acquisitions, with significant transactions including the purchases of Citizens State Bank in Bald Knob, Arkansas (2014), Peoples Bank of the Ozarks in Nixa, Missouri (2014), and various other financial institutions across Missouri and neighboring states. The most recent acquisition occurred on February 25, 2023, when Southern Bank acquired Citizens Bank and Trust Company in Kansas City, Missouri.

I opened an account with the Southern Missouri Savings and Loan Association in 1980 with $10.00 apdated it in 1985 fully intending to add to it when I could and forgetting about it so I wouldn't dip into it hoping to have a little bit of money in my later years.
