Southern Bank is a financial institution that was established on July 2, 1945, under the original name of Bank of Sardis. The bank underwent several name changes and relocations over the years. On January 16, 1967, the main office was relocated to Main Street in Sardis, Georgia. The institution changed its name to Bank of Burke County on April 1, 1987, coinciding with another move to Main Street in Sardis. Subsequently, on April 16, 2001, the bank adopted its current name, Southern Bank. The main office was again moved on March 31, 2006, to 731 Charles Perry Avenue, also in Sardis, Georgia.
