History Of South Shore Bank
South Shore Bank, originally established as Weymouth Savings Bank in 1833, has undergone several significant changes throughout its history. Initially, the institution was not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In 1985, it became FDIC insured and changed its trust powers to full. The institution rebranded as South Shore Savings Bank in 1997 after acquiring South Weymouth Savings Bank on the same day. Over the years, the bank has relocated its main office multiple times, with a notable move to 1530 Main Street, South Weymouth, Massachusetts, in 1997 and again in 2004. In February 2004, South Shore Savings Bank acquired Horizon Bank and Trust Company and changed its organization type to a stock savings bank. A series of transformations occurred on July 27, 2011, when the institution adopted the name South Shore Bank, moved its main office to a new location in South Weymouth, and became a member of the Federal Reserve System.
