South End Savings was established on January 1, 1914, as South End Savings A Federal Association. On December 27, 1993, South End Savings changed its name to South End Savings, S.B., transitioned its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), transformed into a mutual savings bank, and altered its chartering agency to a state authority. The bank operated under this name and structure until it merged with First Savings Bank of Hegewisch on July 26, 2015, in Chicago, Illinois, effectively concluding its independent operations.
