SmartBank is a financial institution established on January 8, 2007, originally under the name SmartBank. The bank has expanded its operations significantly through a series of acquisitions. On October 19, 2012, SmartBank acquired GulfSouth Private Bank in Destin, Florida, through a government-assisted merger. Following this, the bank continued its growth by acquiring Cornerstone Community Bank in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on February 27, 2016. In subsequent years, SmartBank acquired several other financial institutions, including Capstone Bank in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on November 1, 2017; Southern Community Bank in Tullahoma, Tennessee, on May 1, 2018; and Foothills Bank & Trust in Maryville, Tennessee, on November 1, 2018. I had a very unpleasant experience with Smart Bank Tullahoma. The Branch Manager of Sales turned a simple paperwork task into a 6 week fiasco where I had to go over her head to Legal Dept where it was handled in 48 hrs.
