Silvergate Bank was established on August 26, 1988, originally operating under the name Silvergate Thrift and Loan Company. The institution's first main office was located at 8100 La Mesa Boulevard, Suite 100 in La Mesa, California. Over the years, Silvergate underwent several changes, including a name change to Silvergate Bank on July 29, 1997. The organization transitioned from a thrift and loan company to a commercial bank on February 28, 2009. On December 7, 2012, Silvergate Bank became a member of the Federal Reserve System and changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Reserve, as well as its bank class to a state-chartered bank. The main office moved multiple times within La Jolla, California, culminating in a final relocation to 4250 Executive Square Suite 300 on March 31, 2022.
