Security Bank, originally established as Security Federal Savings and Loan Association in 1906, has undergone several significant changes throughout its history. In June 1981, the institution acquired Sangamon Home Savings Association, which was also located in Springfield, Illinois. On May 1, 1995, the bank underwent a series of transformations, changing its name to Security Bank, S.B., and transitioning its regulatory oversight to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). This date also marked a change in the bank's organizational structure to a mutual savings bank and a shift in its chartering agency to the state level.
