History Of Scotiabank

Scotiabank de Puerto Rico was established on September 7, 1979, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Initially, it operated under the name Scotiabank de Puerto Rico and expanded its influence within the region over the following decades. On September 7, 1979, the bank acquired Banco Mercantil de Puerto Rico, which further solidified its presence in the Puerto Rican market. In 1984, the main office was relocated to 273 Ponce De Leon Avenue in San Juan. A significant change occurred in June 1991 when the bank limited its trust powers. Over the years, Scotiabank de Puerto Rico underwent several transformations, including the acquisition of R-g Premier Bank of Puerto Rico in April 2010 as part of a government-assisted merger and changing its trust powers status multiple times during that period. The main office was again moved on May 31, 2011, to 290 Jesus T. Pinero Avenue, San Juan. Ultimately, on December 31, 2019, Scotiabank de Puerto Rico merged with and became part of Oriental Bank in San Juan.
