River Valley Financial Bank was established on January 1, 1910, originally operating under the name Dupont State Bank. The bank's main office was initially located on Main Street in Dupont, Indiana, until it was moved to a new location on North State Street on March 31, 2006. On November 9, 2012, River Valley Financial Bank underwent a name change and simultaneously relocated its main office to 430 Clifty Drive in Madison, Indiana. That same day, the bank acquired River Valley Financial Bank and adopted its current name. Subsequently, on March 1, 2016, River Valley Financial Bank merged with German American Bancorp, based in Jasper, Indiana, and changed its name to German American Bancorp.
