History Of Popular Bank
Popular Bank is a financial institution that was originally established on January 2, 1999, under the name Banco Popular, New York, with its main office located at 7 West 51st Street in New York City. The bank expanded rapidly in its early years, acquiring several other institutions, including Banco Popular de Puerto Rico and Banco Popular, National Association in various locations throughout the United States. Notable acquisitions included The Irving Bank and Water Tower Bank in March 1999, and Aurora National Bank in September 2000. On January 4, 2005, Popular Bank acquired Kislak National Bank in Miami Lakes, Florida, and later Quaker City Bank in Whittier, California, in September 2004. The bank underwent several name changes, including changing its name to Banco Popular North America in January 1999 and ultimately adopting the name Popular Bank on April 6, 2018. Throughout its history, Popular Bank has relocated its main office several times, moving to 11 West 51st Street in August 2010 and subsequently to 85 Broad Street in April 2014.
