Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan Association was established on January 1, 1912. Throughout its history, the institution has undergone several regulatory and operational changes. On June 30, 1985, the main office was relocated to 401 Milwaukee Avenue in Deer Lodge, Montana. In the years that followed, the institution changed its primary federal regulatory agency; on July 21, 2011, it was designated under The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and then, on December 20, 2021, it transitioned to being regulated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Additionally, on the same day, Pioneer Federal's bank classification was updated to Federal and State Savings and Loans, and its chartering agency was changed to reflect state oversight.
