Peoples Bank of Madison County

Peoples Bank of Madison County was established on October 19, 1970, originally under the name Peoples Bank and Trust Company. The institution changed its name to Peoples Bank and Trust Company of Madison County on January 21, 1987. Over the years, it expanded its operations, including the acquisition of Berea Bank and Trust Company on the same day it was established. In 1976, the main office was relocated to 419 Chestnut Street, Berea, Kentucky. The bank attained full trust powers in November 1971 and changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Reserve System on May 3, 2004. Subsequently, it became a state-chartered bank and joined the Federal Reserve System as a member. On January 1, 2006, Peoples Bank of Madison County acquired The Berea National Bank, further solidifying its presence in the region. Ultimately, the bank merged with Whitaker Bank of Lexington, Kentucky, on December 1, 2020, becoming part of a larger banking entity.
