I am giving 1-star because I can't give a 0!
My mom moved to California to live with me (I'm her caretaker). My mom with her altruistic mindset decided (against our advice) to keep some of her assets in Puerto Rico, "to help the economy of the Island" (her words).
But now she needs to transfer all her accounts due to her physical and medical needs. Because of this, she requested the cancellation of a certificate of deposit she has with Oriental. She called many days and multiple times, and so did I. One main issue is that every time we called to the San Patricio Branch the call gets immediately transfer to the headquarters in Hato Rey. Then, we get "educated" with the fact that we need to contact the branch and not the headquarters. No matter how many time we said we called the branch and THEIR switchboard is the one at fault (I'm guessing the switchboard is suffering from IT-dyslexia!) we still get the reply that WE need to CONTACT or VISIT the branch (hello, California is not precisely "walking distance", we are precisely 3,594 miles away!).
Finally, one representative told us what to do and sent us the form we needed to fill out in order to cancel the CD and get a check for its value. We did EVERYTHING! And guess what, instead of a check she got a notification that her certificate of deposit was RENEWED!!! We called again, and again, and again, to DEMAND her check. Surprise, surprise the dyslexic switchboard STRIKES BACK! She needs her money and she can't travel to Puerto Rico! 0 star is probably too much!
0 empathy with the costumers, horrible service. The receptionist didn't orient me in a nice way… I didn't know how to do a specific deposit and she just wanted to show me she was right and that I didn't had all the information she need it to give me the service. Never going back.
I am going to write a letter to the President of this bank so that we can get a certain cashier fired from this branch !
I live in the states, but my mom lives in Vega Baja, PR and for weeks now she has been mistreated by a certain female banker and cashiers there. This last time this female banker tore up my Moms deposit/withdraw slip in front of her face and made my mom re -do another slip and only because my mom did not have one of the numbers lined up in the guide box. My mom cannot see very well and she explained this to this cashier, but instead the cashier laughed in her face and said "that is not my problem lady, sorry".
I am really upset over this as my mom is 80 years old and cannot see thru one eye and this isnt the first time this cashier or cashiers act this way with her. They are very arrogant at all their branches ,in PR ,as I have noticed it myself. This is no way to treat a customer that has been faithful to this bank for many years ... Shame on you cashier ! God does not like ugly ! This has to stop or I may have to fly out to PR in person and be her voice !
I have never had an account with oriental. Every year I get a statement with an annual fee for an account I don't have. I'm sick on it. It's hours on the phone. Worse bank ever!!! I DO NOT HAVE AN ACCOUNT!!!! Professionalism is out the door and no one bows what happens. You know there is a problem in PR when such a back purchased Scotiabank.
We are a IRA Facil account holders. During the last 4 years every time we have to call the bank for any reason, there is a ping-pong from one extension to another. Wait times have been around 25-45 minutes average and when we get a human, they tell us that it is the wrong department! Your customer service is non existent and sucks big time.
