History Of Oconee Federal S&L

Oconee Federal Savings and Loan Association, originally established as The Seneca Building and Loan Association on February 14, 1924, has undergone several name changes and regulatory adjustments throughout its history. The institution changed its name to Oconee Savings and Loan Association on August 1, 1958, and subsequently became Oconee Federal Savings and Loan Association on October 21, 1991. On the same date, the institution also switched its chartering agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision. In 2011, Oconee Federal changed its organization type to a Stock Savings and Loan and switched its primary federal regulatory agency to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency on July 21. The bank expanded through acquisitions, notably acquiring Stephens Federal Bank in Toccoa, Georgia, on December 1, 2014, and Mutual Savings Bank in Hartsville, South Carolina, on January 31, 2024.
