Senior citizens beware! While meeting Oak Star Bank representatives at a business fair held at the Christan Academy in Sunrise Beach Missouri, we were promised a Money Market account that would earn a 4% interest rate. Afterwards we visited the Sunrise Beach Oak Star Bank location and signed up for what we were told was the 4% Money Market account. A year later after seeing our end year statement, we discovered that we were receiving .4% not the 4% promised. The branch manager showed us the original contract and indeed it said .4% and therefore they would do nothing to correct the mistake. I informed them that I believe they took advantage of my age and poor eyesight but they would do nothing to correct the mistake. Beware, take your best reading glasses and look everything over well when dealing with this bank.
I entrusted my Life Savings to this bank and they closed my accounts because I asked an honest question about an overcharge I noticed in my statement records.
I mistakenly believed I could ask a simple question about this overcharge and that they valued me and would assist me with the issue. Instead, they immediately closed my accounts and told me I was not a good customer for them. The Bank Manager told me that I was just "too vocal and articulate" with my concerns.
I desperately tried to defend myself. I asked to please appeal the decision and speak to someone of Higher Authority and the Bank Manager promised me she would make sure I could never speak to anyone.
Although in hindsight, I know this would have been an Absolute Waste of my Time. I'm sure the Higher Ups would have sided with their employees to protect themselves and to have a unified front and support their team. There are Dozens, if not Hundreds, of books on the Psychology of the Hierarchical Power Dynamic in businesses. The Leaders will almost Always maintain the decision by their underlings, even if it is wrong, so they do Not appear weak and disorganized. Especially when an Ultimate decision has already been made, it is almost Never reversed.
Your money is NOT safe here. I gave them Hundreds of Thousands of literal dollars and they closed my accounts because I asked a question about an overcharge.
I had previously written a multiple page explanation of my experience with them. But, I am just going to keep this brief for simplicity. Words can not fully describe the sheer terror, shock and embarrassment I went through when I realized this bank was a sham and that I had invested my hard earned money into an institution that did not care about me in the least.
I know we now live in a Cancel Culture and Anti-Customer Service Culture. But, to experience this first hand, was absolutely surreal.
They do not value or listen to their Customers.
Please heed the warning and do not give them even one cent of your money.
I have no motive to write this short review, than my sincere and genuine desire to protect potential Customers.
Do you like ridiculous overdraft fees? If you selected yes, then this is the perfect bank for you!
I have had an account at First National (now OakStar) Bank for 60 years. At present I live overseas, and only use the bank when I come home, but I have not been able to come home for the last 2 years because of the pandemic. I have received repeated messages that OakStar will close down my account because it is "dormant." I have spent hours in the past trying to rectify this, and I always find it extremely difficult to log into my account from here in UK. Please let me know what I should do to keep my account open. I recently received a printed notice sent to an address I use at Linn Creek c/of 1735 Cape Woods Rd. forwarded by a friend. Please let me know what I should do to keep my account open. Thank you, Lillian Wright
Well once again the computer locked me out, I don't know why i stay here i really don't. All I wanted to do is check my account and comes up this stupid crap to do over, just leave the damn thing alone period what country do I live in, really?
I love doing business at this branch of OakStar bank. Mychaela has been so easy to work with over several years, that we followed her to this smaller branch when she moved several months ago. 5 Stars on service from her and oakStar
I started to use the Urbana Bank when the opening for bussines. I feel some has change with the Oakstarbank, but I still get the good service and the friendlle helpful staff. I wouldn't go anyway else. I want to know the people and I can trust them. Brigitta R GardnerPs. my Family feels the same.
