Northwestern Bank was established on January 1, 1882, originally named Northwestern State Bank of Orange City. Over the years, it underwent several significant changes. On December 30, 1989, the main office was relocated to Main Street in Orange City, Iowa. In a notable expansion, on April 24, 2006, the bank changed its name to Northwestern Bank, moved its main office to 122 Central Avenue Northwest in Orange City, and acquired Security State Bank located in Sheldon, Iowa. Ultimately, on October 16, 2023, Northwestern Bank merged with and became part of Security National Bank of Sioux City, Iowa, marking the culmination of its nearly 142 years of operation.
