Northwest Bank, originally established as Northwest Federal Savings Bank in Spencer, Iowa, on December 30, 1988, has undergone several significant transformations and expansions throughout its history. The institution changed its name to Northwest Bank on April 15, 2008. In the years following its establishment, Northwest Bank expanded its footprint through acquisitions, including Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Spencer on December 31, 1988, and Gateway Savings Bank in Ankeny, Iowa, on August 25, 2006. The bank transitioned from being a member of the Federal Reserve System to a state-chartered bank, with various changes to its regulatory oversight occurring between 2011 and 2012. Notably, the main office moved from 101 West 5th Street in Spencer on February 2, 2009, to its current location at 705 North Grand Avenue, Spencer, Iowa, on August 21, 2013.
