History Of Northeast Bank
Northeast Bank, established on February 5, 1872, originally operated under the name Bethel Savings Bank in Bethel, Maine. The institution underwent a series of name changes and relocations over the years, including its renaming to Bethel Savings Bank FSB in 1984 and the full trust powers acquisition in 1987, when it transitioned to a stock savings bank. In 1996, the bank changed its name to Northeast Bank, F.S.B. and expanded its operations through the acquisition of Brunswick Federal Savings and Cushnoc Bank and Trust Company in 1997. The bank shifted its regulatory status, becoming a member of the Federal Reserve System in 2004, before withdrawing from membership and changing its regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) later that year. Subsequent changes included transitioning to a state-chartered bank and moving its main office multiple times: to Auburn in 2002, Lewiston in 2005, and finally to Portland, Maine, in 2020. Throughout its history, Northeast Bank has adapted to regulatory changes while continuing to serve the banking needs of the community.
