History Of New York Community Bank

New York Community Bank, originally established as Queens County Savings Bank in 1859, underwent significant changes throughout its history. In 1970, the institution changed its name to Queens County Savings Bank and later transitioned to a stock savings bank in 1993. The bank adopted the name New York Community Bank on January 31, 2001, coinciding with the acquisition of Cfs Bank in Woodhaven, New York, and subsequent relocations of its main office. Over the years, the bank expanded through several acquisitions, including Richmond County Savings Bank in July 2001, The Roslyn Savings Bank in October 2003, and others through the mid-2000s, notably during periods of financial distress in the banking sector. On November 30, 2018, following the acquisition of New York Commercial Bank in Westbury, New York, the institution officially rebranded itself as New York Community Bank. Further consolidations occurred until December 1, 2022, when it merged with Flagstar Bank, National Association, and officially changed its name to Flagstar Bank, with the main office continuing operations in Hicksville, New York.

I bought an item online and then was billed a great amount in addition to the order I place. This happened within 20 minutes of the transaction. I called Communit. Told them what happened and told them I was protesting the charges. I assumed that Community would stop the charges. WRONG. One charge they are investigating (isn't that big of them?) and the other they gave the money to the company despite me protesting and explaining in detail what had occurred. I am changing banks as soon as I can and I will NOT say one good word about Community Bank. What a disappointment they are! As far as I am concerned they might as well hand out customers money to any dodgy thief that catches their fancy.

Worse bank I ever tried to open an account. Tried online to open with $50,000. After 2 hrs. I told them on the 5th phone call to forget it and do not open the account. The guy said "ok not opened". Next day they took $50,000 from my checking. Over the next 2 weeks I talked to 5-6 people. One said they can send me a check but will charge me $13.00. Another said they would put money back in my home checking but next day got email stating "cannot be approved". Finally got my money back but no interest which should be about $14,00. I called and talked to a gentleman who put me on hold to look into it. After 30 minutes on hold I just hung up. I then went online to Quontic Bank and opened the account and in 7 minutes the entire transaction was complete.
