I went in to NBT Vails Mills to have a property transfer notarized after being referred by the Broadalbin Town clerk who refused to notarize a property transfer. After the notary at NBT read through the entire packet she told me she couldn't notarize it because I wasn't a customer, which she knew from the beginning. I traveled 45 minutes to get to my home bank. I was never asked if I was a customer at First NY FCU, I was simply assisted with my paperwork.
Having been a customer of NBT, Central National Bank before then, I have always had a good relationship with the many branches I have used. That is until today. I needed a letter notorized and I walked into the Vail Mills branch. (There were no other customers in the branch office at this time.) I asked if a notary was available today and the teller said yes and that I would need to wait a few minutes. I appreciate the fact that many of the NBT braches have notaries available for their customers and I went to sit down to wait until the manager/notary was available. I did not make it to my chair and was invited into her office. I was very happy that she called me in so quickly and I handed her the document to be notartized. She then started to read the document and ask me what it was for and why I needed it notarized. She then refused to notarize the letter and with a very curt voice and attitude told me to go next door to the insurance agency, (which I have no business dealings with), that they would have to notarize it for me. She was very rude and offputting. If she was busy she should not have invited me into her office. I have alway been understanding but found this hard to understand.
Thank you to the wonderful people at the Jenny Rulison-Fisch State Farm Insurance Agency for their friendly and professional attitude. They made a bad situation into a great one with their friendly conversations and smiles as I walked out their door with my letter notarized.
