History Of Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan
Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan was established on January 1, 1922, originally under the name Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan Association Incorporated. Throughout its history, the institution underwent several significant changes, including a name change to Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan Association in February 1985. In January 2003, it changed its name to Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan, S.b., and transitioned from a mutual savings bank to a federally supervised state savings bank under the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The organization evolved further on August 20, 2004, when it became a federal savings bank and changed its name to Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan. The bank's structure was also revised when it became a stock savings bank on September 30, 2004. The institution's primary federal regulatory agency shifted from the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in July 2011. Following a long period of service in Naugatuck, Connecticut, the main office moved to 333 Church Street in July 1997. Ultimately, on January 16, 2016, Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan merged with Liberty Bank, based in Middletown, Connecticut, marking the end of its independent operations.
