History Of National United
National United was established on August 21, 1889, as The First National Bank of Gatesville in Gatesville, Texas. Over the years, it underwent several name changes, becoming The National Bank of Gatesville on February 21, 1938, and later changing its name to National Bank on May 7, 1990. The institution expanded through acquisitions, including Peoples Bank in Hewitt, Texas, on June 13, 1991, and Cove State Bank in Copperas Cove, Texas, shortly before that on April 19, 1990. On January 26, 2017, the bank changed its name to National United. In a significant restructuring, National United merged with BancorpSouth Bank on May 1, 2021, and subsequently changed its name to Cadence Bank on October 29, 2021. Throughout its history, National United's main office was located at 905 Main Street in Gatesville, Texas, following a relocation on August 21, 1972.
