History Of National Penn Bank
National Penn Bank was established on March 9, 1874, under the original name of National Bank of Boyertown in Pennsylvania. The institution experienced several changes in ownership and name throughout its history. On August 1, 1993, it adopted the name National Penn Bank following its acquisition of Chestnut Hill National Bank in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 2, 1993. The bank continued to expand through a series of acquisitions, including Sellersville Savings and Loan Association in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, in January 1992, and The First National Bank of Oley on July 1, 1972. Over the following decades, National Penn Bank further grew through the acquisition of multiple institutions, such as Bernville Bank and The Elverson National Bank in 2001 and 1999, respectively. The bank's headquarters moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania, on January 10, 2014. In 2015, it acquired National Penn Wealth Management in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, and in 2016, it became part of Branch Banking and Trust Company located in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Following this merger, National Penn Bank officially changed its name to Truist Bank on December 7, 2019.
