The National Bank of Commerce has a history that dates back to its establishment on February 7, 1934, originally named The Union National Bank of Superior. Over the years, the bank underwent several name changes and relocations. On July 20, 1940, it changed its name to the National Bank of Commerce in Superior. In the following decades, the main office moved multiple times within Superior, Wisconsin, including moves in September 1972 and June 1998. The institution experienced significant growth through acquisitions, including the acquisition of National Bank of Commerce in Superior on January 1, 2003, and a subsequent name change to simply National Bank of Commerce. On that same date, the main office was relocated to 1127 Tower Avenue in Superior. The bank continued to expand, acquiring Community Bank in Superior, Wisconsin, on November 15, 2008 and Republic Bank, Inc. in Duluth, Minnesota, on October 25, 2019. Earlier in its history, on January 1, 2000, the name changed to National Bank of Commerce in Duluth, with the main office moving to 1314 East Superior Street in Duluth at that time.
