History Of MUFG Union Bank

MUFG Union Bank, National Association, was established on March 9, 1979, as the Bank of Palm Springs in Palm Springs, California. The bank underwent several name changes and acquisitions throughout its history. In 1987, it became The Bank of California, National Association, and it acquired The Bank of California, National Association, and The Mitsubishi Bank of California, with subsequent rebranding to Union Bank of California, National Association in 1996. The institution's main office was relocated multiple times, including to 350 California Street in San Francisco in 1996. Over the years, the bank expanded through various acquisitions, including Frontier Bank, Tamalpais Bank, Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, and several others. Notable changes occurred in 2008 when it was renamed Union Bank, National Association, and in 2014 when it became MUFG Union Bank, National Association, following the acquisition by the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group.
